Today's starting lineup

Perhaps a trip to Mexico City was just what the Astros needed.

They completed a two-game sweep of the Rockies on Sunday as Framber Valdez returned to the mound. And they got encouraging news on Cristian Javier's return so the rotation could soon look like the one they envisioned. Plus,  Joey Loperfido is coming up from Sugar Land to add another bat.

No wonder the Astros said they felt at home in Mexico City and wouldn't mind going back.

The Texans are breathing a sigh of relief after receiver Tank Dell was shot in an in Florida. Dell was one of 10 people shot at a Florida bar but already has been released from the hospital and is back in Houston.

As for the team, the day after the draft is a time to assess the roster. Jonathan M. Alexander breaks down the depth chart and finds one of the most competitive and deepest rosters in Nick Caserio's tenure as GM.

In college football, we resume our look at Texas and Texas A&M after their spring games. Today, it's the defensive lines. The Longhorns have plenty of talent but are looking for more depth and size. The Aggies are ready to carry on their tradition of strength up front.

The Paris Olympics are getting closer each day. Houston has a hopeful in a sport we don't think much about: field hockey. Danielle Lerner has a profile of goalkeeper Kelsey Bing.

Stat of the day: 6. Home runs for the Astros in two games in the 7,350-foot elevation of Mexico City.

Astros feel 'at home' in Mexico City series

The Astros, who received a warm welcome during the two-game series vs. the Rockies, hope to make another visit soon.

  • Astros 8, Rockies 2: The Astros' offense backed Framber Valdez in his return from injury to sweep the Rockies.
  • Reinforcements: As a versatile defender, Joey Loperfido is on his way up from Sugar Land.
  • Starting anew: Cristian Javier's impending return from injured list combined with return of Justin Verlader and Framber Valdez has rotation returning to normal
  • The Dusty factor: One month into the season, the Oakland Athletics have been better than the Astros. Who saw that coming? Injury-plagued Houston hasn't been the same since Dusty Baker retired.

How Texas' defensive line shapes up after spring football

New defensive line coach Kenny Baker inherits a talented group, but size and depth are missing.

  • A&M's front: The defensive line has been a strength the past couple of seasons and will remain as one in 2024 under new coach Mike Elko.

Houston Olympic hopeful Kelsey Bing tends to more than field hockey

An analytical approach to goalkeeping is only natural for a mechanical engineer who is also something of a prankster.
