Today's starting lineup
UH is one win away from an unprecedented championship sweep (see below for why) in its first Big 12 season. The top-ranked Cougars blew open a close game in the second half Friday to romp past Texas Tech in Friday's semifinal, putting them in tonight's championship game against Iowa State. UH also had to overcome an early injury to big man J'Wan Roberts.
Elsewhere, Texas A&M knocked off Kentucky at the SEC Tournament, Texas Southern advanced to the SWAC championship and Sam Houston saw its NCAA Tournament hopes end with a second-half collapse against UTEP at the C-USA tournament.
All eyes are on the Astros' starting pitching situation. Houston is among the teams interested in Blake Snell, last year's National League Cy Young Award winner. That comes on the same day José Urquidy left his start Friday with what was called a "sore elbow." And after throwing a bullpen session Friday, Justin Verlander is hopeful about facing live hitters soon as he builds up from a shoulder issue.
It looks like Texans fans will not have to worry about the first night of the NFL draft after Houston traded its first-round pick to the Vikings in a multi-pick swap.
How the Rockets' "Stay Ready Group" is having an impact as Houston deals with a wave of injuries.
With some prominent new faces, another Dash season begins tonight in North Carolina.
Former colleagues fondly remember Fred Faour, a former Houston Chronicle sports editor and local sports talk radio host who died Thursday at age 59.
