Today's starting lineup

The postseason — albeit not the tournament that matters most — began Thursday for UH and the top-ranked Cougars were locked in from the start. UH overwhelmed TCU from the opening tip to blast the Horned Frogs in the Big 12 tournament quarterfinals and dish out some payback for a January loss in Fort Worth. Next up: tonight's semifinal against another intrastate foe in Texas Tech.

Elsewhere, Texas A&M and Texas Southern won in the SEC and SWAC tournaments, respectively. At Rice, the Owls parted ways with coach Scott Pera after seven seasons on South Main.

The Rockets returned home needing an easy game. The NBA-worst Wizards provided just that, with Houston hammering Washington as rookie guard Amen Thompson was a key factor in just his second start of the season. Houston's recent rash of injuries has created opportunities for some reserves previously relegated to scant playing time.

Joe Thon, the son of former Astros fan favorite Dickie Thon, is passing down lessons from his father to Houston's next generation of players as the manager at Double-A Corpus Christi. Meantime, a lack of command this spring sees offseason acquisition Dylan Coleman optioned to minor league camp.

New Texans running back Joe Mixon was introduced to the Houston media Thursday, and being part of Cincinnati's ascent to Super Bowl contender, he sees a similarly bright future with his new team. How a trade that fell through and moves around the NFL led to some shuffling on the Texans' defensive line.

Stat of the day: 59.3. The Rockets' field-goal percentage Thursday night, a single-game best for the season.
