Houston made a big splash by reaching a two-year deal with former Vikings star Danielle Hunter, the Morton Ranch graduate who was one of the top edge rushers on the market. With their leading scorer out for a few weeks, the Rockets knew they'd need to rely on defense. Enter Dillon Brooks. The veteran agitator shut down Spurs rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama as Houston extended its road winning streak to a season-best four games with a tight victory in San Antonio. As for Alperen Şengün, the news of his diagnosis was met with a sense of relief from teammates after the scare in Sacramento two nights earlier.
Venezuelan right-hander Luis Contreras, with a nontraditional career path, is vying for a job in the Astros' bullpen this spring. Meanwhile, Hunter Brown is looking to finish strong in 2024 after the righty had a letdown at the end of last season.

The Texans reached a deal with ex-Viking Danielle Hunter, a Morton Ranch graduate coming off a career season, to replace the departed Jonathan Greenard on the defensive line.

With the Rockets needing to rely on their defense to win with their leading scorer out, Dillon Brooks locked down Victor Wembanyama to key Tuesday's win over the Spurs.
- Getting it done late: Life without Alperen Şengün saw the Rockets make some stops late to pull out their fourth straight road win.
- Sense of relief: While it's not known if he'll return this season, Alperen Şengün's teammates were relieved after his injuries weren't as bad as originally feared.
- Another loss: The Rockets took another blow on the injury front, losing rookie swingman Cam Whitmore for roughly three weeks with a knee injury.

Chasing the dream
Venezuelan right-hander Luis Contreras, who for a time lived at the baseball training facility where he worked, hasn't allowed a run in four Grapefruit League outings as he vies for a job in the Astros' bullpen.
- Seeking staying power: Hunter Brown tailed off at the end of his first full season in the big leagues, so he's added a pitch and worked hard in the gym to avoid a repeat.
