Lake Conroe is permanently closed due to lack of use by residents

Lake Conroe Park is now permanently closed.

Montgomery County has terminated its lease agreement with the San Jacinto River Authority, which owns the property.

The 13-acre park featured barbecue pits, picnic facilities, swimming areas and fishing piers. Two covered pavilions were available for rent, and visitors could use a softball field and volleyball areas.

Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker said the park has been costly to maintain. Officials also said most of the visitors have been from out of Montgomery County in recent years.

Miami-based burger joint Pincho will offer free Pincho burgers to its first 100 customers and $5 Pincho burgers all day at its grand opening in Harper's Preserve Wednesday, with all proceeds going to a local homeless shelter.
