Today's starting lineup
Alperen Şengün continues to be the center of attention for the Rockets and their opponents. The third-year big man took control during the third quarter Wednesday in a way championship-era Rockets teams did as Houston rebounded from a shaky first half to cruise past the Nets at Toyota Center.
How much has Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud grown since the first time he faced the Colts? A simple checkdown pass in Sunday's game tells the story. Ahead of the Week 18 showdown in Indianapolis, Jonathan M. Alexander answers readers' Texans questions. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil returned to practice Wednesday and was also voted to his fourth Pro Bowl.
Another marquee event in Houston? The city is vying to host the World Baseball Classic in 2026.
Michigan and Washington will be Big Ten rivals this fall, but thoughts of that are on hold until after Monday's College Football Playoff championship game at NRG Stadium. For teams in offseason mode, UH adds a quarterback via the transfer portal and Texas A&M hires a receivers coach from rival Alabama.
Woody Williams, who went on to a long major league career after starring at UH in the late 1980s, is returning to the Cougars' baseball program in a newly created role on the coaching staff.
Stat of the day: 10. Rockets wins by double digits through 32 games this season. They had six all of last season.

Hitting reset
Alperen Şengün would've made franchise icon Rudy Tomjanovich proud with how he restored order to lead the Rockets to a win over the Nets on Wednesday.
- Same place, same time: For the second straight game, the Rockets took control in the third quarter as they overcame a mistake-filled first half to top the Nets.
- Need for patience: Rookies Amen Thompson and Cam Whitmore are trying to make the most of what court time they're allotted.
- Eason out: Forward Tari Eason was again sidelined by soreness in his left leg that has been an issue all season

Making strides
A 5-yard checkdown pass last Sunday was an example of rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud's development since the Texans' first game against the Colts as he eyes a playoff berth.
- Week 18 mailbag. Ahead of a momentous Texans regular-season finale at Indianapolis, Jonathan M. Alexander answers readers' questions about Week 18 and offseason priorities, among other topics.

- Accolade for Tunsil: For the fourth time since he arrived in Houston in 2019, Texans tackle Laremy Tunsil has been voted to the Pro Bowl.
- Ill-informed fan: FS1 host Colin Cowherd thinks the Texans are one of the five best teams in the AFC, but he also showed he may not be keeping up with them too closely.

The future is now
Michigan and Washington will be Big Ten opponents this fall, but that doesn't matter now with this year's national title at stake Monday at NRG Stadium.
- Adding another arm: Transfer Zeon Chriss started six games for Louisiana last season and will have three years of eligibility left at UH.
- Staff filled out: Holmon Wiggins, who had been at Alabama in a similar role since 2019, is joining Texas A&M as receivers coach.
- Not for the cheap: If you're looking for a ticket to Monday night's national championship game at NRG Stadium, be prepared to spend at least four figures.

Coming through late
Clutch free-throw shooting down the stretch helped Dawson avert a collapse and pick up a key District 23-6A win against Alief Taylor.
- Getting closer: College Park coach Clifton McNeely loves to win, but he also wants his players to see each other as family, which they did in a recent trip to San Diego.
