Today's starting lineup

DeMeco Ryans had a simple plan when he became the Texans coach a little less than a year ago.

Win games and become a team that Houston can be proud of.

He's done both, and though some say the Texans are ahead of schedule, they are just following the script. Jerome Solomon's column.

The Astros have given Houston plenty to be proud of in recent years but they took a hit a month before spring training. Reliever Kendall Graveman will miss the season after shoulder surgery, leaving the team with another hole to fill in the bullpen.

The Rockets are in a bit of a tailspin on their current road trip but the growing chemistry between veteran Fred VanVleet and Alperen Şengün is a positive trend.

UH is looking to get back on the winning side in Big 12 play as it hosts Texas Tech. L.J. Cryer has been off in Houston's two losses but coach Kelvin Sampson respects Cryer's experience and is confident he'll get it fixed.

Fixing football has been at the top of the to-do list for all recent athletic directors at Texas A&M. As Ross Bjork leaves for Ohio State, the issue remains for his successor.

Stat of the day: 4-of-23. The shooting for Houston's L.J. Cryer in the Cougars' two Big 12 losses.
