Today's starting lineup
It would've been fair to expect a lopsided result in Sunday's Texans game. But few likely would've envisioned one going in favor of the Jets. But that's what happened as the Texans' offense was missing at MetLife Stadium in the season's ugliest loss. Houston's playoff chances took a hit as well as quarterback C.J. Stroud, who missed the final few minutes and went into concussion protocol. The Texans also were without one of their top receivers for much of the game after Nico Collins departed with an injury. Sunday's results around the AFC have the Texans outside the playoff cut line with four games to go. We also have our weekly Texans report card and turning point.
The Rockets will welcome back rookie Amen Thompson after a month-long absence when they host the free-falling Spurs tonight. But Houston may be without defensive stopper Dillon Brooks.
No. 21 Texas A&M is upset at home by Memphis on the Aggies' home court.
This week's high school football state championships in Arlington mark a big-city title fight with teams from the Houston and Dallas areas squaring off in the two Class 6A finals.
Stat of the day: 42. Games ago that the Texans had fewer than the 135 total yards they had Sunday. That was in Week 4 of the 2021 season, when they had 109 in a 40-0 loss at Buffalo.

Costly loss on many levels
From key injuries to dropping out of a playoff spot, the Texans' loss to the Jets proved to be quite painful.
- Stroud down: The Texans lost star rookie QB C.J. Stroud after a hard hit near the end of Sunday's game that landed him in concussion protocol.
- Top target lost: Shortly after he surpassed 1,000 yards on the season, leading Texans receiver Nico Collins' day ended with a calf inury.
- On outside looking in: The Texans are among six teams tied at 7-6 but tiebreakers have them outside the AFC playoff picture after Sunday's games.
- Report card: The Texans played arguably their worst game of the year at New York. We grade the performances of their units and coaches in Sunday's loss.
- Turning point: The Texans' failure to stop a third-and-long early in the third quarter led to the Jets' first touchdown as New York rolled in the second half.
- In their thoughts: Texans receiver Tank Dell is out for the season with a fractured fibula, but his teammates showed they were thinking about him before the Jets game.
- Frank Wycheck: 1971-2023: Frank Wycheck, who played for the Oilers in the team's final two seasons in Houston before going on to become a star in Tennessee, dies at 52 after a fall at his home.

Amen, he's back
The Rockets welcome the return of rookie guard Amen Thompson, their top draft pick, tonight against the Spurs after missing more than a month with an ankle injury.
- Status uncertain: The Rockets' Dillon Brooks, who has started every game this season, is questionable for tonight's game with an illness that forced him to miss Sunday's practice.
- Rockets-Spurs preview: The Rockets will try to extend their home win streak to 10 games tonight against the Spurs, who have lost 16 in a row.

No-doubt victory
Devin Haney moved up in weight and won another title, winning a convincing unanimous decision over Houston's Regis Prograis in front of a sellout crowd in San Francisco.
