Well everyone, as with the last post I sent out, my RSS-to-email did not automatically send as intended. Instead of the full post in your inboxes, you're getting a preview as a result. I enabled the setting after my last post, but because I post so infrequently it turned off again. Next time, I will check before I hit publish. I'm still getting used to this new system instead of the old one (RIP, Feedburner).
The point of today's email: a 2023 gift guide.
I put together a holiday gift list with some of my favourite things, including the world's best pencil (fighting words, I know), a new card game for travelers, hands-free shoes, a lightweight chef's knife, and much more — like the colander to end all colanders.
I'm not kidding either. This is truly my kind of colander:
It's perfect, right?
This whimsical strainer and more in the full post, linked below.

Some happy updates:
I will be sending out another email in the next weeks sharing how I've moved some of my posts — those relating to health primarily — to a new personal site. My mast cell resources page is there too, and I will be sharing more there as it relates to my leak and chronic illness journey. It was time to split up my writing. I'll be continuing to add travel and celiac-related content on Legal Nomads.
When I send out the next email, I'll give you the option of staying subscribed to both, or just wanting updates from one vs. the other.
Speaking of my health journey, I wanted to share two things that have made me smile these days:
1. I won an award for my advocacy work and raising awareness for my 'alphabet of conditions', in great company I should add. (I never thought I'd be on the same list as Nick Jonas and Padma Lakshmi, that's for sure!)
2. I spoke at a conference about what it's like to live with a chronic spinal CSF leak, both as it relates to learning acceptance despite things not getting better, and the practical changes around my apartment to accommodate my leak. You can watch the 16 minute video here, and the post that goes with the talk is here.
On the healing front:
I'm still dealing with the spinal CSF leak and the consequences of re-opening it last January. It's been almost a full year of being mostly indoors, and while I did make some progress in the spring it has not lasted. I won't be able to go out walking like I did last winter since that is what led my leak to reopen, so it will be a winter of hibernation and hopefully some healing. We'll see where I net out come spring.
That's it for now. Look out for the email in late December or early January where I'll set out how the site has changed and you can choose whether you want to receive some, if any, of the updates to follow. 🖤
I hope everyone is as well as possible,
Jodi
