HISD convocation, including Mike Miles' musical, cost taxpayers nearly $470K
Budgets obtained by the Houston Chronicle through a public records request show that Houston ISD paid $468,531.62 for a convocation at NRG Center, during which state-appointed Superintendent Mike Miles took the stage to kick off the school year with a musical starring himself.
The nearly $470,000 does not include expenses for the other four days of professional development at the event center, which were themselves marred by dangerous overcrowding and disorganization.
