As members of District 21-6A, both North Shore and Summer Creek were challenged often. Now, the league mates head to AT&T Stadium later this week to represent Houston against a pair of Dallas teams in the Class 6A Division I and II championships. North Shore (15-0) earned a state rematch with Duncanville after withstanding Austin Westlake in Saturday's state semifinal. The Mustangs return to Arlington for the fifth time in six years. Last season, they fell to the Panthers (13-1) by a touchdown. Summer Creek (14-1), meanwhile, made a huge statement in demolishing Cibolo Steele 38-14 Saturday at McLane Stadium. The Bulldogs reach state for the first time. They are also the first-ever Humble ISD team to accomplish that feat. Summer Creek will face defending state champion DeSoto (14-0). Two teams from the same district reaching state isn't really a rarity these days. Duncanville and DeSoto are both members of District 11. Quote of the night: "Our coaches told us that we had to play hard for 48 minutes, and we did that. We came out and executed and did what we had to do to win."- Summer Creek running back Lloyd Avant Stat of the night: 2.7. The amount of yards per play Westlake was held to against North Shore's defense. Up next: The UIL state football championships take place Wednesday through Saturday. |
