Today's starting lineup

It's hot stove time and the Astros are in the thick of it at baseball's winter meetings. Houston landed a backup catcher late Tuesday, agreeing to a free-agent deal with veteran Victor Caratini, who spent the past two seasons with the Brewers. General manager Dana Brown also said that Jake Meyers, often an afterthought last year, will get first crack at being the primary center fielder. Lastly, Lance McCullers Jr. and Luis Garcia have progressed to playing catch as they continue their recoveries from arm surgeries that sidelined them in 2023.

The Rockets are coming off three straight losses on the road but have won eight in a row overall. They'll try to use home cooking to get back on track when they host the Thunder tonight,

With starter Dalton Schultz out, third-year tight end Brevin Jordan stepped up with his best game for the Texans last weekend. Veteran safety Adrian Amos is set to sign with the Texans in time to face his old Jets squad. Off the field, Texans mainstay Jon Weeks is the team's nominee for the NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year, the league's highest off-field accolade.

Tuesday marked 25 years since Texas A&M last won a football conference title, Mike Elko is the fifth coach since that 1998 triumph tasked with finding the winning formula for the Aggies.

With starter Dalton Schultz out, tight end Brevin Jordan had a career-high in receiving yards in the Texans' win over the Broncos that significantly bolstered Houston's playoff hopes.
