Houston landed a backup catcher late Tuesday, agreeing to a free-agent deal with veteran Victor Caratini, who spent the past two seasons with the Brewers. General manager Dana Brown also said that Jake Meyers, often an afterthought last year, will get first crack at being the primary center fielder. Lastly, Lance McCullers Jr. and Luis Garcia have progressed to playing catch as they continue their recoveries from arm surgeries that sidelined them in 2023.
