NRG Energy relocates its headquarters in one of the biggest Houston leases of 2023

NRG Energy employees will move across downtown in 2026 after the power company signed a new lease to relocate its headquarters to 3 Houston Center.

The company will occupy 245,000 square feet across the top 10 floors at 1301 McKinney. It will move out of a larger space subleased from Shell at 910 Louisiana. The deal with landlord Brookfield Properties is one of the largest office leases of 2023.

"The move stems from NRG's intention to provide new amenities for our diverse workforce, such as enhanced parking, a free gym and convenient tunnel access," an NRG spokesperson said. "Over the next two years, we will spend time customizing the space to create fluid and collaborative workspaces to best meet our employees' needs."

Brookfield completed a modernization of Houston Center to make the campus more pedestrian friendly and connected to the outdoors. The complex consists of several buildings with outdoor plazas, restaurants and retail near Discovery Green, the George R. Brown Convention Center and Toyota Center.
