First, a bit of refreshing news: After months of stifling heat, Houston could see a cold front push through the area in the days ahead. But don't bust out the cardigans just yet…

"High temperatures are expected to be 93 degrees in Houston, which is six degrees above average for the first day of October," meteorologist Anthony Franze writes.

On the gridiron, former Texans great J.J. Watt will have his name and number added to the franchise's Ring of Honor. Earlier this week, Watt took out a full-page ad in the Houston Chronicle to thank fans.

Houston toxic San Jacinto waste pits still aren't cleaned up

The San Jacinto River waste pits have leeched dioxins and furans into the water for decades. Now, one pit is two-thirds cleaned up, while the other — which sits partly underwater — is in limbo.

Niche.com released its 2024 Best Schools in America rankings Sept. 25. Greater Houston has four of the top five best private schools in Texas.

Texas city named one of the best places to see solar eclipse

The Oct. 14 eclipse will go through San Antonio, but the best place to see it may be from New Braunfels, according to a new Space.com list.
