Today's starting lineup

Talk of retirement can wait for Dusty Baker. The Astros manager has his focus on Minnesota and repeating as World Series champs. Jerome Solomon brings us another look at Dusty.

Before the Astros take on the Twins, they must first set their roster and GM Dana Brown faces some interesting questions on the last few spots. Matt Kawahara breaks it down.

One thing we do know, Justin Verlander and Framber Valdez will start the first two games at home.

The Texans could have Tytus Howard back this week. The offensive lineman describes the injury that kept him out the first four weeks. Even with the good numbers C.J. Stroud has put up in the first four games, the rookie QB knows there is room for improvement.

There's plenty of room for the Rockets to improve. Veteran Reggie Bullock sees Houston as a place he can help.

In college football, the annual Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma kicks off on Saturday. The Longhorns know they must play with emotion but not get too emotional. And in College Station, Texas A&M is hosting Alabama and Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban is worried about facing the Aggies' defensive front.

UH is off this week and some readers are getting antsy. Joseph Duarte answers questions in his weekly mailbag. Also, athletic director Chris Pezman is one of four candidates for the same position at Washington.

In high school football, North Shore took care of Summer Creek to keep its district winning streak alive. Bridgeland, Willis and Katy were among Thursday's other winners.

And in jurisprudence, Mike Spiller a gymnastics coach with ties to Houston was sentenced to 10 years after pleading guilty to child sexual abuse charges. Danielle Lerner first reported on Spiller's history last fall.

Stat of the day: 1,020. Career tackles for Dick Butkus, the Chicago Bears linebacker who passed away at age 80.
