Today's starting lineup

When Jose Altuve homers on his first swing, that's a pretty good sign for the Astros.

When Justin Verlander is on the mound and settling in for six scoreless innings, that's another good sign.

When Yordan Alvarez is launching home runs against lefties, that's another.

With a little help from Bryan Abreu when things got close, it all added up to a 6-4 win over the Twins in Game 1 of the ALDS.

But winning in October is what this team does, Jerome Solomon says.

Before the Astros move on to Game 2 Sunday night at Minute Maid, the Texans will go for a third win in a row in Atlanta.

Will Anderson Jr. is starting to make an impact on defense with a little help from J.J. Watt. Brooks Kubena has a look at their early interactions.

Veteran cornerback Steven Nelson has been playing with a purpose. Jonathan M. Alexander looks at what is driving him this season.

In college football Saturday, Texas dropped a wild game in Dallas against Oklahoma. The Longhorns had gambled all day and come back from early mistakes to take a 30-27 lead with 1:17 to play. But OU drove downfield with ease for the winning touchdown to give the Longhorns their first loss.

In College Station, the Aggies looked poised to make a statement against Alabama. But after leading at the half, A&M scored just three points in the second and took their second loss of the season.

Closer to home, Rice missed a big chance by falling to winless UConn.

The Rockets have their annual open house today, and fans might get a glimpse of how new coach Ime Udoka plans to use Alperen Sengün.

And in Belgium, the world gymnastics championships wrap up with individual events. Simone Biles will be back in action after settling for a silver in the vault.

Several of the entries in the world championships train at the World Champions Centre in Spring. Danielle Lerner has a look at how the facility came to be a place for elite gymnasts.

Stat of the day: 0. Number of RBIs that Jose Altuve had in the 2022 playoffs. He's already got one this season after his leadoff homer.
