Welcome to Sunday, Space City.

After weeks of searing temps, we are officially entering the last week of summer with some solid Sunday weather on deck.

Houstonians can expect late afternoon highs in the low 90s with a 20% chance of rain in the city, newsroom meteorologist Anthony Franze writes.

"While it will be quite warm, Sunday is looking like a great day to be outside," he adds.

There's no shortage of options for people looking to hold the 'Sunday scaries' at bay:

At noon, the Texans enter week two of the NFL season in a matchup against the Colts at NRG Stadium. Drake is set to have H-Town going up on a Sunday with the first of two Houston concerts happening tonight at the Toyota Center.

Enjoy the last bits of summer sun while you can. Spooky season is coming in hot.

If you read one thing

Leisa Glenn, a Fifth Ward resident whose family home is across from the former Southern Pacific rail yard, leaves the home of Mary Hutchins, a neighbor on the street, after a visit, Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, in Houston. The railroad burned creosote, a wood preservative the Center for Disease Control and Prevention says has been been shown to increase cancer, for decades prior to Souther Pacific's takeover of the site in 1997, but a toxic plume of contamination remains underground. Glenn still maintains her family's home on Lavender Street, but hasn't lived in the family's home full-time since 2005.

Houston neighborhood riddled with cancer angry after Union Pacific cites 'no concerns' in report

Parts of the Houston neighborhood sit atop a cancer-linked wood preservative that now corrupts the area's groundwater. Now, Fifth Ward residents sound more dejected with each piece of news, from monthly cancer deaths to railyard owner Union Pacific's contested claim that the state had found "no cancer concerns" linked to surface soil chemicals.
