Fort Bend ISD unveils plans for the Sugar Land 95 memorial.

Five years ago, a significant event reshaped our understanding of Fort Bend County's history and community. The remains of 95 leased convicts were uncovered at the site of the James C. Reese Career and Technical Center in Sugar Land.

The discovery prompted a powerful response from our community, which came together to give these 95 individuals the respect and dignity they deserved. A proper burial was arranged, allowing them to rest in peace, and monuments were erected in their honor at the very CTE center that was under construction.

Phase 2 is expected to be ready in 2025

Have you seen the exhibits at the Reese Center? What did you think?

One last thing ...

Let's end today's newsletter on a warm and fuzzy note. Beloved Houston PD police horse Avatar is retiring after four years of service to the community, my colleague Hana Ikramuddin reports. Avatar will now live at the Home Horse and Human Sanctuary, and spend his days roaming around freely in the pasture with other horses.
