What does your home decor say about you?

When people ask me about home decor, I always tell them that their home should reflect their personality. Lots of color or go neutral? Whimsy or quiet classics? Traditional, transitional, contemporary or modern? It all should depend on you.

For Katie and Hunter Summerford, who bought a modest Montrose bungalow, it meant adding bright minty green paint on the fireplace and bar, orange chairs in the dining room and Warhol-style Elvis wallpaper in the powder bathroom. Yep, that's one fun couple.

You'll find a story on the Summerford's home in this newsletter, along with a story on Hotel Daphne, a new Bunkhouse hotel breaking ground in the Heights and a story on the completion of a new downtown oasis, Lynn Wyatt Square, outside Jones Plaza.

Mayor Sylvester Turner, left, greets Lynn Wyatt as they arrive for the grand opening ceremony of Lynn Wyatt Square for the Performing Arts Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023 in Houston. Wyatt Square replaces what had long been Jones Plaza at the intersection of Texas and Louisiana. The green 1.5-acres space includes a flexible performance lawn for concerts and other free programs, a cascading water feature, accessible entries, gardens, trees, a street theater, one-of-a-kind tête-à-tête rockers/seating, lighting and sound elements. Mini murals cover traffic boxes within the square. In addition, park visitors will enjoy complimentary programming that reflects the cultural district and Houston's dynamic and diverse population. Wyatt donated $10 million to revitalize the space.

Downtown's Jones Plaza is officially Lynn Wyatt Square

Downtown's Jones Plaza has had many iterations over the decades. It was built in the mid-'60s with Jones Hall, but in recent years had become an eyesore. After a big makeover, it's Lynn Wyatt Square.
