Today's starting lineup

Kevin Porter Jr.'s time with the Rockets is virtually certain to be over, and his days in the NBA might also be numbered. How it all shakes out remains to be determined. Jonathan Feigen breaks down the scenarios for Porter, who was arrested in New York on Monday and charged with "assault and strangulation."

Two players who figure to be around awhile —Texans QB C.J. Stroud and Colts QB Anthony Richardson — first met at a high school 7-on-7 competition. Now, they meet as rookies in the NFL. Jonathan M. Alexander has the story.

The Texans could be without their starting safeties for the home opener but Laremy Tunsil appears to be fine.

In college football, Texas' performance against Alabama was a lot about quarterback Quinn Ewers, but the defense was no slouch, either. The Longhorns are a unanimous pick for No. 1 in our Big 12 power rankings.

Houston took time out to honor three of the city's finest — Bruce Matthews, Calvin Muphy and Elvin Hayes — with a ring ceremony and walk of fame unveiling for the three newest members of the Houston Sports Hall of Fame. Jerome Solomon reminds us why we're lucky to have athletes like these.

Another athlete Houston can be proud of is Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel. As she begins prep for a third Olympic games, she launched a foundation to make swimming a more comfortable and safer environment for persons of color.

And in Thursday's high school football, Ridge Point, Lamar and Wisdom were among he winners. Check out the area and state scores here.

Stat of the day: 46-101. Eight years removed from its 2015 championship, Kansas City owns the majors' worst record. The Royals host the Astros for three games, starting Friday.
