If you had to give up one of your five senses, which one and why?
"Out of the five senses, I think I'd have to choose smell. I need the rest of my senses way too much!"
— Lynn
"I would give up the sense of smell. Sight, hearing and touch keep you connected to other people. The sense of taste is about pleasure – so is the sense of smell. But forced to choose, losing the ability to smell is the lesser evil."
— Bobbie
"I would give up smell if I could keep taste. I lost my sense of taste once and really missed having it – eating became a chore. I use sight and touch almost constantly to move safely and do my job. I enjoy hearing while I can, as most people in my family lose it fairly early. But smell is for special occasions, like receiving flowers or going out to eat, and can sometimes be misleading, as when things smell better than they taste. I would not miss it as constantly as the other senses."
— Dave
"If I had to lose one sense, it would have to be taste. Although sad to never taste ice cream or chicken sandwiches ever again, at least I could hear, see and feel all of my family members."
— Arial
"I would choose to lose my hearing. It's the only sense that can be replaced by "artificial means." A person would probably retain the power of speech and could learn sign language."
— John
"I would give up my sense of taste because then I would only eat fruits and vegetables."
— Laura
