The Jordan Warriors were ready for Katy. They made it known. Loud and proud from the newest Katy ISD school. The Warriors put up a fight Friday night at Legacy Stadium. But the Tigers had the final answer. Katy proved once again that it is Katy, overcoming anything and everything thrown its way for a gutsy 42-35 win over Jordan. The No. 8 state-ranked Tigers improved to 5-1 overall and took over first place in District 19-6A at 4-0. The No. 25 Warriors dropped their first game of the season and are 4-1 overall and 2-1 in district. Tigers junior quarterback Gunner Nelson scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 2-yard keeper with 5:04 left in the game. He accounted for five touchdowns on the night. Katy extended its district winning streak to 21 games. The Tigers are 2-0 against the Warriors after winning last season's inaugural meeting 70-21. Quote of the night: "It was a great atmosphere out here tonight. That's what Friday night is about. We knew we had to start fast, and those guys did a good job coming out and doing that." - North Shore coach Willie Gaston on the win at C.E. King Stat of the night: That guy D.J. Lagway up in Willis was slinging the ball all over the yard once again. The senior Florida commit totaled eight touchdown passes with six coming in the first quarter in a 75-14 win over Cleveland in District 13-6A. Saturday's showcase: Mercer Stadium is the site for a big District 20-6A showdown. George Ranch (5-0, 3-0) is off to its best start since its magical 2015 state title run.
