North Montgomery County neighbors Willis and Conroe have only rekindled any semblance of a rivalry in recent years since the Wildkats moved up to Class 6A in 2020.

On Friday night in front of a homecoming crowd, Willis rumbled. Both teams came in unbeaten and seeking another District 13-6A win.

It's the Wildkats who are 4-0 now. Florida commit D.J. Lagway, who missed last year's Conroe game due to injury, scored the first three touchdowns with his legs as Willis won 63-14.

"I wouldn't be able to do it without those guys," Lagway said. "They're the ones that keep it going, so I'm just thankful and grateful for them.

Quote of the night: "They were running man coverage all game, and we had been game planning all week for that. Just throwing the ball all over them, getting it over the top and beating that man coverage." - Cypress Ranch junior quarterback Owen Cossette said after accounting for nine touchdowns in a win over Cypress Woods

Stat of the night: Cossette went 28 for 35 for 479 yards and eight passing touchdowns. He also rushed 12 times for 82 yards and another score.

Saturday's showcase: George Ranch (3-0, 1-0) and Fort Bend Austin (2-1, 1-0) go to battle 6 p.m. at Hall Stadium in District 20-6A. George Ranch is 3-0 for the first time since 2015.
