Women's Center of Texas City offers expanded services to meet area's health needs.
The Women's Center of Texas City is a simple and hyper-descriptive name for a healthcare facility, isn't it?
Most of them are to the point, which is the point.
The HCA Houston Healthcare system clinic has been in Texas City for more than 20 years but didn't have the technological and staff resources to cover all the medical needs for women, including preventive treatment and comprehensive well woman exams.
Now it does.
Dr. Jihad Harmouche, the director of the newly renovated clinic, said that while working at area hospitals, he would see patients from Texas City and surrounding communities come in with advanced conditions.
It wasn't about economic conditions or lack of insurance, he told me, this was a general trend Harmouche recognized across the board.
If someone has to drive an hour to Houston or even 20 minutes to a neighboring city just to get an exam, or check on something they may have concerns about, Harmouche said they were less likely to seek medical treatment.
The result of that can be devastating for many women.
