The Galveston Island Beach Revue splashes beachgoers back to the past

If you want to take a trip back in time — maybe to a summer when things weren't quite so toasty — check out the Galveston Island Beach Revue festival this weekend which celebrates the early days of beach-going on the island.

But maybe you want something with a little less sand involved. You can check out the wonders of the often overlooked The Health Museum in the Museum District or swing by the artists at Sawyer Yards who are throwing open their doors for visitors this weekend.

Or maybe you'd just rather just sit down with a great steak. Here are our 18 favorite Houston-area restaurants to do just that.

There aren't a lot of big movies coming out this weekend but three movies twist reality in intriguing ways. "Aporia" asks if you would kill someone in the past, Ben Kingsley meets an alien in "Jules" and Dracula takes to the high seas in "The Last Voyage of the Demeter."

Legendary Motown group The Temptations is celebrated in a live production, "Ain't Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations," at The Hobby Center.

It has been a week for Houstonians on TV. Arushi Garg won "Hot Wheels: Ultimate Challenge" and Eduardo Antonio TreviƱo wowed 'em on "America's Got Talent."

Also: Check out Joe Rogan's favorite new restaurant in The Woodlands; Texas singer-songwriter Hannah Jadagu is becoming a rising indie-rock star; Travis Scott's "Utopia" album debuts at number one; Alison Cook reviews Goode Co. Kitchen & Cantina in the Heights.

Have a great weekend!
