New-home sales are up across Houston's suburbs, making Houston the top performing metro in the U.S. with 13 communities landing in a ranking of the nation's top 50, according to a midyear report by real estate consulting firm RCLCO.
What do they have in common? Resort-style amenities, parks and places that foster connections with neighbors, a supply of available homes in various price ranges and proximity to schools, services and jobs.
One factor driving the sales is the limited supply of existing homes on the market moving buyers to new-home purchases, said Michael Smith, president and CEO of Johnson Development Co., which has experienced a 28 percent rise in year-to-date sales across its portfolio. Plus, builders are offering incentives such as assistance with closing costs and mortgage rate buy-downs to help buyers cope with higher interest rates.
