A Motown meltdown does in Astros in opener of road trip

The Astros went from one extreme to another when it comes to tough losses. They were one out away from a win Friday in Detroit before the Tigers rallied against closer Ryan Pressly to hand Houston a devastating defeat. Houston did get one highlight, as Framber Valdez rebounded to toss seven hitless innings. The Astros are facing Miguel Cabrera for the final time. The longtime mentor of Jose Altuve said he can see the Houston star joining him in the 3,000 hit club.

Needville has been unflappable in reaching today's U.S. championship game at the Little League World Series. Their youngsters' success has put a jolt into the citizens of the small town outside Houston.

Spring's Simone Biles, seeking a record eighth all-around title, is in the lead after the first night of the U.S. women's gymnastic championships in San Jose, Calif. Danielle Lerner looks at how therapy dogs are being used to help contestants' mental health at the event.

The first Friday night of the high school football season saw perennial state power North Shore race past The Woodlands in one of the area's more intriguing nondistrict matchups. Also, Bridgeland stunned Cy-Fair with a late touchdown to win their matchup, Shadow Creek rode a strong defensive effort past Manvel and Summer Creek topped Klein Cain. Calm before the storm

Needville, cool under pressure during the Little League World Series, faces California today for the United States championship, attempting to become just the fifth Texas team to claim that crown.

Simone Biles has the lead after the opening round of the U.S. women's gymnastics championships, keeping alive her quest to become the only gymnast, man or woman, to win eight all-around titles.
