Today's starting lineup
During this golden era of Astros baseball, there hasn't been a player to hit for the cycle, one of baseball's rarities. Jose Altuve ended the franchise's wait at 10 years Monday, hitting a single, double, triple and home run in a series-opening mauling of the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Are the Astros on the verge of finally getting Michael Brantley back? The veteran outfielder joined the team in Boston and is "close" to being active.
The roster trimming has begun for the Texans, who have until this afternoon to get to the NFL's 53-man roster limit. Cuts began Monday with two notable veterans getting pink-slipped. In his latest stock report, Jonathan M. Alexander looks at who's rising and falling in the wake of Sunday's preseason finale.
It's college football game week around the area. While they aren't wearing "Hello, My Name Is" stickers at UH, the Cougars have plenty of newness surrounding the program, from the roster to their conference. In College Station, Jimbo Fisher names Texas A&M's starting quarterback after a competition for the third straight year. Texas' Steve Sarkisian responds to some eyebrow-raising comments from Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark. And Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M get a big game to start the season.
