Downtown is getting a new 17-story hotel that will have a small grocery store on the ground floor.
Sugar Land-based Neway Hospitality plans to start construction on a 275-room hotel under the Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites brands on the corner of Texas Avenue and Austin Street by the end of September.
"There's a lack of grocery store options in this part of downtown," said Ali Momin, president of Neway Hospitality. "This valuable addition to the downtown area perfectly complements the surrounding community and the extended stay Staybridge Suite Hotel situated at our location."
The hotel will be built on a 20,000-square-foot parcel that is currently the site of a 55-space surface parking lot. The first four levels will have a parking garage, available to both guest and the general public going to Astros games or dinner downtown, according to Momin. The development will incorporate 10 fast EV charging stations on Texas Avenue and in the parking garage.
