Woodlands firefighter and search-and-rescue dog aid after Maui wildfires.
Woodlands firefighter Bryan Crivelli has joined in the search-and-rescue efforts amid the Maui wildfires.
Crivelli was deployed with his dog, Pferal, as part of the Texas A&M Task Force 1, an elite group that responds to federal natural disasters. Pferal is one of 40 cadaver dogs looking for human remains after the disaster, which has 114 confirmed fatalities thus far. As of Sunday, all fires were at least 85 percent contained, according to Maui County.
"He's really good, but he's got a bad job," Woodlands Fire Department Chief Palmer Buck said. "It's a tragedy going on, and the only way we can make it a little bit better is trying to give them that closure."
Wildfires are also a top issue in Montgomery County, where there are an average of five to six brush fires daily, Montgomery County Fire Marshal Jimmy Williams said. Most of the fires, Williams said, are due to illegal burning and residents burning trash.
"Magnolia (fire department) has had one significant fire every day this week," Williams said. "North Montgomery County (fire department) had four wildfires going on at the same time Wednesday."
Most of the fires are small, but some have damaged homes. Read more about the wildfires in Montgomery County and Maui here.
