Houston's big movie weekend: 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer'

It's hot outside but it's cool inside the movie theater and there are two big reasons to head to the multiplex this weekend beyond air conditioning: "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer." Are you planning to be part of the Barbenheimer moment and see both?

It's also going to be cool inside performance halls around town, especially at The Alley Theatre which is bringing back its Summer Chills series with Agatha Chrisitie's "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd."

Of course, ice cream is always a reliable way to cool down. So here are 17 recommended ice cream shops where you can beat the heat.

But if you're looking to eat something that's just a bit more sophisticated and might actually have a little heat, Alison Cook reviews Jun, the new restaurant from "Top Chef" finalist Evelyn Garcia and Henry Lu.

And don't forget that the popular play "Always...Patsy Cline," the salute to the iconic country singer that began here in Houston at Stages 35 years ago, is back.

Also: This Houston trans woman is all about Barbie; Jamie Foxx helps uncover a conspiracy in Netflix's "They Cloned Tyrone"; the first drive-thru Shake Shack in the area opens July 26; Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Houston seeks to update its image with a retooled "Pirates of Penzance."

Have a great weekend!
