First-of-its-kind pickleball courts open in The Woodlands this weekend.
Get ready to hear the "pock, pock, pock" of pickleball players in even more corners of The Woodlands this summer.
As the sport grows in popularity across the country, the township is attempting to catch up to demand with its first set of pickleball-only courts set to open this weekend.
There are already 43 pickleball-lined multipurpose courts in The Woodlands, but they require players to bring their own nets and can fill up quickly, township pickleball instructor Adda Cuthbert said. Cuthbert said the courts will make for a more beginner-friendly experience.
"It'll be easier now for people just to grab a paddle, come out and play," Cuthbert said.
For those looking to escape the heat, new pickleball facility ERA Pickleball has recently opened next to Grogan's Mill. Several other facilities, including Lifetime Fitness, are also working on courts, Cuthbert said.
The township will celebrate the new courts with a ribbon-cutting ceremony including demonstrations by local pickleball instructors, open play and concessions for residents from 9-11 a.m. Saturday. It'll be a big pickleball weekend—Cuthbert will also host a pickleball tournament with a ticket to the National tournament Saturday. Read the full story here.
