I've lost track of how many trips the Uvalde families have made to the Texas Capitol to call for change in the wake of the Robb Elementary School tragedy. While they are a long way from getting the types of gun control passed that they've called for at rallies or in committee hearings, they are sounding far from defeated in this latest piece from Cayla Harris. "Uvalde families didn't fail. Texas politicians did," tweeted Kimberly Mata-Rubio, the mother of 10-year-old daughter Lexi Rubio. Even as it became clear that a bill to raise the age for purchasing some weapons in Texas wasn't going to advance to the House floor, several of the families were making their voices heard to the point where one was ordered to leave the Texas Capitol because he was too loud. "They can try to kick us out and push us out and hold us down and stop us, but they can't, because we're not stopping, and we're not backing down," said Brett Cross whose 10-year-old nephew Uziyah Garcia was among the 19 children and two teachers killed almost a year ago at the school. |
