Animal shelters were created to provide a safe, comfortable place for animals that have been abandoned, abused or neglected. Unfortunately, animal shelters in Fort Bend and elsewhere are constantly battling the issue of crowding. The city of Sugar Land on Wednesday issued a warning that its shelter may stop accepting pets soon. Although Petopia was designed to house 31 dogs and 52 cats, it now has 65 dogs and 43 cats. Due to the insufficient space, some dogs are being housed in the cat shelter. Three more dogs, the city said, and the facility will stop intakes altogether. The shelter needs all the help it can get and has put out a call for help fostering or adopting its animals. Do you have a story idea? Write and let us know at juhi.varma@houstonchronicle.com. |
