| This week's cold snap isn't going to be as bad as the February 2021 freeze brought on by Winter Storm Uri, we think (and hope), experts said across several stories leading today's newsletter. ERCOT, the state's nonprofit grid operator, has advised generators to prepare for a harsh cold blast this week, but "we continue to expect adequate supply with reserves for the approaching cold weather conditions." And local energy suppliers, such as San Antonio's CPS Energy, have taken steps to weatherize and improve their process since the '21 freeze: "I'm not worried," said a senior vice president with CPS in charge of energy supply. 'We've done so much work this year. We've upgraded our system, and everybody is focused." Hundreds died across the state in 2021 as a result of Winter Storm Uri, which also left millions without power. The crisis inspired reforms to the power grid in last year's session, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has called for even more legislative changes in next year's scheduled session. And Texans have seemed to hold their breath on every particularly hot or cold day ever since, as Gov.
