The Houston Chronicle's food team unveiled their annual list of Top 100 restaurants, and to the shock of no one who's ever eaten there, Brett's BBQ Shop and Phat Eatery made the list. The Houston area is overflowing with spectacular eateries, so cultivating a list of the top 100 restaurants in a city already known for its cuisine is daunting. I have to give our food team credit- their methodology in declaring the best of the best is pretty solid. I've dined numerous times at both Brett's BBQ Shop and Phat Eatery, so when I learned they made the list, I wasn't surprised. I was enthusiastically nodding over the fact that the Houston Chronicle's mighty food team expanded their coverage of best restaurants to include the 'burbs, which resulted in these two highly deserving restaurants landing on the list. For my follow up piece on the story, I interviewed Jacqueline Herrera from Brett's BBQ Shop and Alex Au-Yeung from Phat Eatery. While Central Texas barbecue and Malaysian street cuisine couldn't be more different, the two had almost everything else in common. They are dear friends, and they gush about the other. They've also both been in business for four years now, and they both credit the Katy community for their success in the industry. Have you ever eaten at Brett's or Phat Eatery? If so, what do you think about them making the Houston Chronicle's list? Let me know your thoughts at claire.goodman@chron.com. |
