Only nine games in the state of Texas will feature a pair of undefeated team this week, and one is right here in the Greater Houston area. No. 6 state-ranked Bellville (6-2, 2-0) will host Brookshire Royal (5-0, 1-0) at "The Pasture of Pain" for a game that could determine the District 10-4A Division II champion. Royal is enjoying a renaissance under second-year head coach Theadis Reagins. Bellville and head coach Grady Rowe, meanwhile, are looking to defend their league crown and finish out a second consecutive undefeated regular season. The game will be played at 7 p.m. Friday at Brahma Stadium in Bellville. Three things to watch DeVaughn invades Delmar: Madison running back Chase DeVaughn has been on a tear over the past three games, leading his team to three straight victories. The senior ball carrier posted 229, 229 and 219 yards, respectively, against Sharpstown, Houston Austin and Milby. He'll have a chance to go over 1,000 yards for the second consecutive season as the Marlins (4-2, 3-1) face off against District 9-5A Division I foe Waltrip (4-1, 3-0) tonight at Delmar Stadium. Madison won this matchup 26-21 last season, so another exciting game could be in store. More Amador for North Shore: With starting quarterback Kaleb Bailey expected to miss multiple weeks due to injury, No. 1 state-ranked North Shore (5-0, 2-0) will likely keep receiver David Amador II orchestrating the offense. Amador, a UTSA commit, filled in admirably last week during a victory over C.E. King, accounting for four touchdowns. The Mustangs will continue their District 21-6A schedule Friday night with a road game against No. 25 Summer Creek (3-2, 2-0). This is the only Houston-area game this week that features two state-ranked teams. St. John's gets big test: St. John's is No. 2 in the Chronicle's private school rankings, and deservedly so. The Mavericks (5-1, 1-0) have won five straight games, and their only loss came in the season opener against No. 1 St. Thomas. But this week presents a big test as the team travels to play Episcopal in a Southwest Preparatory Conference 4A clash. The game will feature two of the top private school quarterbacks in the area with St. John's junior Stephen Gill and Episcopal junior Karson Gordon. The Mavericks pulled out a 24-20 victory last season. Check out the full Houston-area schedule, my breakdown of the games to watch and our coverage plan below.
