Unbeaten and hungry: State-ranked Klein Collins is rolling right now.

State-ranked Klein Collins is one of the hottest teams in the Houston area right now, and maintained its momentum with a 61-49 shootout victory against Tomball Memorial on Saturday. Running back Justin Castillo had a monster game with 275 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Tigers (6-0, 3-0) will continue their quest for another district championship against Klein Forest on Friday,

"When we're in practice, we make sure that we're in competitive situations," Klein Collins coach Adrian Mitchell said. "Our kids know how to respond under those circumstances, and it shows during football games. When you prepare against each other every day at practice, it's going to make you better."

Three weekend takeaways

Bridgeland earns big shutout: Hudson Pollard scored the go-ahead touchdown just before halftime, Noah Allen-Cuellar added a score in the second half and Bridgeland shut out Cypress Falls 16-0 in District 16-6A action Saturday night at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium.

Bellville rolls: Bellville's chances at another district title took a monumental leap Friday evening. The state-ranked Brahmas defended their home turf and earned a 38-3 victory against a previously unbeaten Brookshire Royal team in a District 10-4A Division II matchup at "The Pasture of Pain."

Gordon propels Episcopal: Episcopal quarterback Karson Gordon supplied four touchdowns in the first half, and the Knights scored on five of their first six possessions en route to a 41-7 win against St. John's in Southwest Preparatory Conference 4A play Friday night at Simmons Field.

Volleyball rankings

District play is in the home stretch for many Houston-area teams, and there was some movement in our weekly rankings.

Here are the top three.

1. Tompkins | Previous rank: 1

The Falcons (31-3, 12-0) faced the other three District 19-6A teams in playoff position and won all three matches, including a sweep of Seven Lakes and a four-set victory against Katy Taylor. Tompkins has won 11 in a row entering a non-district match Tuesday against Clear Creek. The Falcons are back to 19-6A play Friday, visiting Morton Ranch.

2. Cypress Ranch | Previous rank: 2

The Mustangs (36-2, 9-0) just keep winning, making it 20 in a row with sweeps of Cypress Woods and Cypress Springs. Cy Ranch hosts Cypress Park and Bridgeland this week, the latter with first place on the line.

3. Bridgeland | Previous rank: 4

The Bears (33-7, 8-1) kept pace with Cy Ranch with two more victories in District 16-6A, defeating Langham Creek and Cypress Park. Bridgeland hosts Cypress Falls on Tuesday before the rematch with the Mustangs. The teams went to five sets last time.

Shout out

Sam Houston picked up its first district victory since 2003, beating Chavez 13-12 on Friday. The 4-2 Tigers are off to their best start since the 1970s.

Stat of the day

Fulshear scored 40 or more points for the sixth straight game to begin the season. The Chargers defeated Friendswood 45-14 in District 10-5A Division I action Saturday.
