Over at the Texas Medical Center, some amazing developments are happening in the field of heart transplantation in Houston. With the help of a "heart-in-a-box," the machine gives hospitals the opportunity to turn to a wider patient population: people who died because their heart stopped. The machine essentially brings the heart back to life by mimicking the body's natural function, so surgeons can safely retrieve the organ and preserve it longer, writes Julian Gill. Fascinating stuff. Breaking late: After winning 3-2 Thursday night, the Astros head to New York with a 2-0 lead over the Yankees in the ALCS. Sunny skies continue with highs in the mid-80s today.
