| More than 4,000 athletes prepare for upcoming Ironman triathlon – After last year's scheduled Ironman event was rained out, more than 4,000 athletes are ready to race this weekend. Organizers say more than 3,000 people volunteered to make this event happen from donating swim caps for athletes to handing out information packets. The race starts Sunday and includes a 2.4 mile-long swim, 112 mile-long bike ride and a 26.2 mile run through the greater Sacramento area. Folsom segment of the Capital Southeast Connector Expressway completed – The long-awaited Folsom segment of the Capital Southeast Connector Expressway is now complete and open to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. This is phase 1 of the planned 34-mile expressway that will connect Interstate 5 in Elk Grove to Highway 50 in El Dorado County. Man arrested in SWAT standoff is suspect in deadly shooting in East Sacramento – A man arrested at a standoff in the Pocket area is now a suspect in a deadly shooting in East Sacramento on Thursday. Desean Brasser Jr., 23, was arrested on suspicion of homicide and robbery, according to the Sacramento Police Department. He was found in the Pocket area near Shoal Court. He was booked in the Sacramento County Main Jail early Friday morning.
