| Jaquaize Pettaway put the Langham Creek offense on his back last year, leading the team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. The end result was the same as 2020, though, as the Lobos missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season. The Oklahoma commit wants to change the tide this year, and Langham Creek is off to a good start after winning its District 16-6A opener against Bridgeland last week. They have another challenge Friday against a 3-1 Cypress Falls team. "I don't care if I get the ball — I just want to win," said Pettaway, the No. 6-ranked receiver in the country for the 2023 class. "I want to see my boys do good and shine and be great. That's all that matters to me." Read our feature story on Pettaway, written by Al Montaño. Three things to watch Showdown on the Eastside: There's a new top dog in town. North Shore (4-0, 1-0) took over the No. 1 state ranking in Class 6A this week, jumping ahead of Austin Westlake following a 62-0 victory over Beaumont United. The Mustangs' next District 21-6A opponent will provide a bigger challenge. C.E. King (3-1, 1-0) will arrive at Galena Park ISD Stadium tonight looking to knock off the defending champions. Something new, something old: Perhaps only Jordan saw this coming. But yet, here we are. The matchup between No. 5 state-ranked Katy (5-0, 3-0), one of Texas' most prominent high school programs, and Jordan (3-1, 2-0), a program with a mere four varsity games under its belt, is a significant District 19-6A clash. The teams will play tonight at Rhodes Stadium, and the winner will have sole possession of first place. Panthers, Bulldogs collide: Crosby entered the season as a heavy favorite to win the District 8-5A Division I title. But after three weeks of action, it's La Porte (4-1) and Kingwood Park (4-1) sitting atop the standings with sparkling 3-0 records. Now the teams will finally clash with sole possession of first place on the line. This will mark the first meeting between these two programs. The contest will be played tonight at Turner Stadium.
