'It was devastating' | Caltrans removes homeless camp near W and 9th – Caltrans removed a homeless camp on W and 9th streets in Sacramento on Wednesday morning. This comes as the designated camping and parking area nearby is now at capacity. Tucked underneath Highway 50, Maurice Boid found a place to call home for the past six months alongside dozens of others who had nowhere else left to go. "This morning, I was woken up by a sheriff being very rude to me, telling me to get up and it was not my playground anymore," Boid said. Caltrans says their protocol is to post a notice within 72 hours before doing a cleanup. They confirmed with ABC10 that it was posted on Friday of last week. Jacqueline Armstrong was one of those employees until she started working for SMUD in 2016. Armstrong is Sacramentan with disabilities. She said Californians with disabilities making sub-minimum wages just doesn’t make sense. “I just want to do my job and get paid and live the way anybody else would, disability or not,” Armstrong said. (Mike Duffy, ABC10) Folsom assisted living center employees allegedly slapped, 'tormented' 90-year-old woman – A Folsom assisted living and memory care center says the employees accused of abusing a 90-year-old woman with dementia are no longer with the company. The move from Brookdale Senior Living follows allegations that employees slapped, tormented, and even laughed at the woman. The 90 year old was described as a Caldor Fire evacuee who was forced to leave her home and enter the facility on Aug. 21. Just days after placing her 90-year-old grandmother in the care of Folsom’s Brookdale Senior Living center, Rebecca Gyorgy says her family starting noticing red flags such as bruises on her leg.
