Possible Perseid meteor caught on Ring camera over Rocklin – A video in Rocklin captured what appears to be a Perseid meteor shooting across the night sky over the weekend. Anna Childs captured the shooting meteor on her ring camera overnight. The “Perseids,” appear in the night sky around mid-July to mid-late August each year. Perseids get their name from the direction the meteors come; the constellation Perseus. The best viewing of the meteors in the northern hemisphere is when the sky is the darkest. This is during the crescent moon, which will set early on August 11.(Carley Gomez, ABC10) Four people killed in Colusa County helicopter crash – The Colusa County Sheriff's Department confirmed four people have died after a helicopter crashed in Colusa County Sunday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the crash happened at around 1:15 p.m. in a remote area of Colusa County. Deputies said it happened near Highway 45 at Reservation Road and that the four people on board the Robinson R66 helicopter were dead at the scene. Less than a week earlier, a private jet crashed while attempting to land at the Truckee-Tahoe Airport on Monday, July 26. Six people were killed in that crash. Aviation expert Steve Thompson said there could be a common thread with these recent crashes. "A lot of aircraft have been having problems and I believe a great deal of it is due to the extreme temperature that we have now. And that could very well benefactor," Thompson said. (ABC10) Elk Grove Unified employee fired after displaying Confederate flag in district van –The employee accused of displaying a Confederate flag inside a district van is no longer working for the Elk Grove Unified School District, the school announced. The school released a statement saying they promised students the right to attend school free of bullying and discrimination. "We want our students who identify as Black and African American to know that every school has people they can rely on to create a safe space," the statement reads. Erin Somers, the president of Elk Grove Unified School District Parent Coalition, told ABC10 she applauds the school's decision to part ways with the employee. "We can hopefully look to them to continue the work that they need to do so we need to continue to hold them accountable," Somers said.
