Sacramento was unanimously approved to move forward Tuesday night. There's an estimated 10,000 people experiencing homelessness in Sacramento. The city's plan calls for 20 temporary Safe Ground shelter sites, which include campsites, tiny homes, and emergency shelters in the city. A bulk in the W/X corridor, North Sacramento, or near and along Stockton Boulevard. There are also comprehensive temporary housing programs like large campuses, motel conversions or vouchers, and built-in Good Neighbor policies to ensure safety and cleanliness. (Van Tieu, ABC10) City Council moves forward on siting plan to address homelessness – A plan to address homelessness inSacramento City Unified School District proposes vaccine mandate – The Sacramento City Unified School District could see mandated COVID-19 vaccinations or weekly testing for teachers and other staff. The proposal was provided on Tuesday to the Sacramento City Teachers Association and to other labor groups. Under the proposal, staff would have to provide proof of vaccination by Aug. 30. Otherwise, they'll be required to participate in a weekly COVID-19 testing program. (Eric Escalante, ABC10) Criminal Justice lecturer accused of setting series of fires near Dixie Fire area – A court-filed complaint identified the man as Gary Stephen Maynard, 47, and accused him of committing several arsons in the past month near the Lassen National Forest and Shasta Trinity National Forest. According to the complaint, officials believe Maynard went into evacuation zones and set fires behind first responders as they fought the second largest wildfire in state history. The complaint said his actions posed a danger of enlarging the Dixie Fire, threatening lives and property, and increasing danger to firefighters.
