Family looking for more answers after young father found hanging near Linden – The San Joaquin County Sheriffs Office received a call around 8 a.m. Tuesday, July 20. It was for a report of a man found hanging from a tree near Linden. When firefighters arrived, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives from both the San Joaquin County Sheriffs Office and the Medical Examiners office found no signs of struggle or of foul play. However, drug paraphernalia was found in the area. What happened was declared a "self-inflicted hanging." "This is a good man who struggled. That's all it was. It could be any of us. It could be any of our children," San Joaquin County Sheriff Pat Withrow said, adding Sonline posts saying that Robbins' hands were tied, that he had been shot and that he had been beaten were not true. The victim's father said the facts are "gut wrenching" to hear. "Based on the evidence, I understand that. I fully understand that. But, my thing is everything happened so fast," Arthur Robbins Sr. said of his son Arthur Robbins. (Kurt Rivera, ABC10) Bacon may disappear in California as pig rules take effect – A California law taking effect Jan. 1, 2022, could make pork harder to find and more expensive. Voters in 2018 overwhelmingly approved the law, which requires more space for breeding pigs, egg-laying chickens and veal calves. National veal and egg producers are optimistic they can meet the new standards, but only 4% of hog operations now comply with the new rules. Unless the courts intervene or the state temporarily allows non-compliant meat to be sold in the state, California will lose much of its pork supply. Groups have long been pushing for more humane treatment of farm animals but the California rules could be a rare case of consumers clearly paying a price for their beliefs.
