| Galt police officer dies from injuries following car crash – Galt Police Department Officer Harminder Grewal has died following injuries he sustained in a car crash on Sunday, Aug. 22. Grewal and his partner Officer Kapri Herrera were involved in a crash with another car while on their way to help in Caldor Fire. In the most recent update from the Galt Police Department, Officer Herrera was still in the ICU and in critical, but stable condition. "Officer Grewal took pride in serving his community and his work ethic was contagious to all who worked with him. His service to our community will never be forgotten," a press release from Galt police said. Grewal, a two-and-a-half-year veteran of the Galt Police Department, leaves behind "a mother, father, brother and a countless number of family, friends, and loved ones." (Simone Soublet, ABC10) Over half a million Californians should expect payout from Golden State Stimulus II – About 600,000 Californians can expect to receive the second Golden State Stimulus check as early as Friday, Aug. 27, the Franchise Tax Board told ABC10. This money is part of the $12-billion state tax rebate program enacted by Governor Newsom, providing direct payments to Californians during the coronavirus pandemic. The Franchise Tax Board told ABC10 that it has about 9 million payments overall to send out so most recipients won't be getting a check in August. (Ashton Byers, ABC10) Sacramento County reports COVID-19 patients filling hospitals – Sacramento County Public Health confirmed Thursday the county has reached another grim milestone. Health officer Dr. Olivia Kasirye said hospitals in the county are reporting beds are full. “The hospitals are at capacity now. We are concerned about the status and the availability of both the general beds, as well as beds in the intensive care unit,” Kasirye said. “With the hospitalizations from the last report that we received, we are at 420 cases of COVID-19 in the hospital, including 106 in the intensive care unit."
