| What to know about the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that rattled Northern California – Dr. Angela Chung, a project scientist at the Berkeley Seismology Lab, says the magnitude 6.0 earthquake that rattled parts of Northern California Thursday was nothing too out of the ordinary. The quake hit near the California-Nevada border southeast of Markleeville. It was followed by dozens of aftershocks, including nearly a half-dozen of magnitude 4.0 or greater. Many on social media in Sacramento, and as far as Modesto, have reported feeling the earthquake. Was this a sign that the 'Big One' is soon to come? “There's a small chance, about a 10% chance, that there could be a larger earthquake that happens after this one," Dr. Chung said. "But most likely, this is going to be the biggest one. And there's going to be continued aftershocks following this one.” (Staff, ABC10) Sheriff's office warning swimmers after Lake Berryessa sees multiple drownings in less than 10 days – With two people drowning in a two-week span at Lake Berryessa, the sheriff's office is warning people that the waters might not be as safe as they look. “You could be swimming in six feet of water then all of a sudden its 90 feet and you are still trying to make it to the island,” said Sgt. Jon Thompson with the Napa County Sheriff' Office. Lake Berryessa is notorious for steep underwater drop offs, but this year’s drought is causing water levels to drop more than an inch a day, making beach drop offs unpredictable. (John Bartell, ABC10) Sacramento County seeing expected rise in COVID-19 cases, health officials say – The coronavirus continues to spread throughout the world, and Sacramento County is starting to see a small rise following California's reopening on June 15. Currently, Sacramento County has 75 cases identified as the Delta variant. Sacramento County epidemiology program manager Jamie White said the county expects it will soon be the most common variant. White said people should remember that vaccination is the number one defense in catching the coronavirus or having a severe illness if you catch the coronavirus.
