| ABC10 sues to release messages between Newsom staff and PG&E regulators – It started in November 2020 when ABC10 asked the California Public Utilities Commission to hand over messages between its top official and high-ranking staffers in Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office. ABC10 wanted to see what CPUC President Marybel Batjer and Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office said to each other while orchestrating a complex plan to help PG&E exit bankruptcy in the wake of the company’s crimes. The CPUC refused to release the messages and delayed ABC10’s ability to challenge its decision in court. “Under the logical extension of [the CPUC’s] position, they can essentially ignore all Public Records Act requests for months or years and never be held accountable for that,” said Steve Zansberg, a freedom of information attorney representing ABC10 in the case. “Or for the actions that those public records describe.” (Brandon Rittiman, ABC10) New bill adds farmers, wineries to California's Fair Plan fire insurance pool – Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed a bill that will help farms and wineries get fire insurance coverage when other private insurance companies turn them down. The Fair Plan is an insurance pool required by the state to provide basic insurance coverage for homes. Now with SB 11, farmers and winery owners can join this plan to protect their buildings and equipment. However, some in the winery business don’t believe the bill is enough because the plan only covers up to $3 million. So far in 2021, Cal Fire reports that there have been over 5,600 wildfire incidents across the state. "Please do not forget her. Please do not let this just be a passing news story, because it most certainly is not one for us," said her grandmother, Anne Elkus. Her grandmother remembers the teen as brave and funny. "She was our little child," Elkus said. "I used to tell her that she was my favorite granddaughter, and she used to say to me, 'Grandma! I'm your only granddaughter' and I say, 'Well, you're still my favorite!'" Three weeks after Isis was killed in a hit-and-run crash, her family remains in agony and is pleading for answers. They say little information has been shared about the investigation. (Van Tieu, ABC10) TIP OF THE DAYAnd with the 9th pick, the Kings select... We don't know, but we can find out together!
