Do you qualify for the $600 payment? – California officials say 2.5 million people in California have so far taken advantage of the Golden State Stimulus. Yet, with the tax deadline just over a week away, it also means over 1.5 million eligible tax filing Californians still haven’t claimed their credit. You could be eligible and not know it. Those who qualify are either CalEITC, earned income tax credit filers, typically low-income filers, or ITIN filers (people who file taxes but don’t have a social security number). The best way to find out if you are eligible is to file your 2020 taxes. The deadline to file with the IRS is May 17 -- that's just 10 days away. (Mike Duffy, ABC10) Flock of giant California condors trash woman's home – Giant California condors are rare, but apparently not at Cinda Mickols’ home. Fifteen to 20 of the giant endangered birds have recently taken a liking to her house in the city of Tehachapi and have basically trashed the place. Mickols daughter posted photos of the rowdy guests on Twitter, and they are pretty incredible. They trashed the deck. Plants have been knocked over, railings scratched and there’s poop everywhere. (Associated Press and Izzy Greenblatt, ABC10) ‘We’re dying for drivers’ | A California driver shortage has trucking agencies scrambling – Weeks before the harvest season ramps up, trucking agencies are sounding the alarm as they face an unprecedented year with driver shortages. Scott Daniel, owner of Young’s Commercial Transfer, is seeing the impact firsthand as he juggles the harvest of carrots in San Joaquin Valley. Daniel said he’s made calls to workers about getting back to trucking, and they've told him they don't want to return to work because unemployment benefits are already paying enough. (Eric Escalante, ABC10) TIP OF THE DAYWildfire toolkit Cal Fire says now is the time to prepare for wildfires. For those who are most vulnerable, the Fire Safe Council and Listos California can help people get ready. They've developed 13 custom-built wildfire preparedness trailers and 42 toolkits set to got to fire prevention groups across the state. (Lena Howland, ABC10) SMILENew children's museum It's gonna be the best children's museum in the Central Valley. At least that's according to the three families spearheading the Modesto Children's Museum, a new play space currently in the works, set to be centrally located in downtown.
