Click here Modesto councilman's comments about police encounters stirs controversy – A Modesto City Councilman is facing criticism for some unsolicited advice he gave during an April 20 budget hearing concerning the police department. "I would like to talk to dads out there and moms that are listening,” said Zoslocki. "Train your kids. If you maybe want to save their life, something my dad taught me, it's an old school thing, when an officer approaches you, don't resist." The comments did not sit well with Darlene Ruiz, a mother whose son Trevor Seever was shot and killed by Modesto Police Officer Joseph Lamantia on Dec. 29 last year. "To make a comment that if you didn't resist, you could go home? That didn't happen," Ruiz said. "Trevor is buried in a cemetery and he did comply." However, the state's reopening is in sight, regardless of tier status. In early April, Gov. Newsom announced that the tier system could be going away altogether on June 15. That leaves many things up in the air for the Central Valley area when the county has, at best, a chance at four weeks in the orange tier and one week in the yellow before the tier system goes away. Awards. The award recognized the Lopez family’s resilience, contributions and their creative pivoting during the pandemic. The shop is a meat market, deli and store, but also a place for new immigrants to seek services like bus tickets, money transfers or just advice to help families get settled into their new home.
